Crispy fried chicken wings… just because you can have your cake and eat it at the same time. This chicken wings recipe is as easy as it comes, it is a crowd pleaser and you can add absolutely anything in your pantry to it just to make it your own. When I cook chicken, I try not to overkill it with spices as I still want to be able to taste my chicken. Honestly I’m sure you know that I am a sucker for chicken, any time any day.
Did you know you can add baking powder to your chicken to enhance its crispness? Well I didn’t know this till I stumbled on it recently. It is the next thing after slice bread. I tried it and I continue to try it, it is like magic, the chicken comes out crispy, you know you just get the crunch just on the outside of the chicken when you bite into it, it is flavoursome and succulent and the rest is history. No dry chicken here but pure goodness
I used my active kitchen all purpose seasoning, salt, baking powder and flour for this recipe, but like I mentioned earlier, you can use any spice that floats your boat. I also did not need to marinate the chicken wings before frying; everything was pretty much done in half an hour. This crispy chicken wings recipe is great for parties; the kids would absolutely love it too. You can either deep fry or bake the chicken for a healthier option
PS: I apologise for my long absence from this beautiful platform. It feels like I have let so many people down. I really don’t have any excuse. My active kitchen is one of my babies and I shouldn’t have left it unattended to for this long. I am trying my hardest to make it work and be consistent. Oh life, why do you always get in the way????
This recipe has been lying in my draft since last year December and the plan was to blog it before Christmas. Anyhow, it’s never too late to treat yourself, family and friends to this yummy and easy crispy chicken wing recipe.
What you will need
1 kg Chicken wing
1tbsp baking powder
2tbsp all purpose flour
Spices of choice (paprika, garlic, ginger etc)
Vegetable oil for frying
1 medium size onion
Cut chicken wings into drumlette and winglette . This stage optional. Pat chicken dry with paper towel to get rid of excess moisture
Add salt to the chicken and mix till well combined, add spices, baking powder and thoroughly combine. Sprinkle the flour on the chicken and toss to combine
Place a shallow frying pan on a high heat; add vegetable oil enough to fry the chicken.
Once the oil is hot, carefully drop the chicken in batches into the oil and fry for about 15 minutes or till golden brown and crisp.
Place the chicken on a paper towel to drain the oil
Serve immediately with chips and dip of choice
Note: Use baking powder and not baking soda, they are two different things
- This recipe can be baked, it will take longer time to get it very crispy. I found the frying better and quicker if I am in a rush. It tastes the same to me. If you would bake them, place them in the oven and cook on 130 degrees for 30 minutes (do not eat, they are not properly cooked yet) then increase the heat to 220 degrees and bake for another 30 minutes
Do let me know when try out this recipe, don’t be shy to say Hi and share with your friends too
